Pocomo Meals on Wheels is a voluntary service providing home delivery of nutritional meals throughout the Tri-City area (Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam and Port Moody) using a network of volunteer drivers. Meals are supplied to those who are unable to shop, prepare or cook meal for themselves.
Benefits
In addition to the nutritional benefits available through this service, provision is made for:
- Social contacts for meal recipients living alone
- Security in knowing that a friendly volunteer will check on their well being on delivery days and respond quickly if an emergency arises
- A means for meal recipients to retain their independence in their own homes
- Short term nutritional help for convalescents.
- Ongoing meal assistance for the chronically ill
You can arrange for this service yourself or through referrals from family, friends, doctors, health and social agencies.
Eligibility
Residents of Coquitlam, Port Moody, and Port Coquitlam whose eating habit are a concern because of the following:
- They are unable to prepare hot meals for themselves
- Have no one to shop regularly
- Have no one to prepare a meal for them
- Have inadequate cooking facilities
Self referrals can be made as well as referrals from concerned family and friends, doctors, and health and social agencies.
Preparation and Delivery
Meals are planned and prepared fresh daily by local dietary staff to a standard approved by the municipal and provincial health boards and picked up and delivered by our group of dedicated volunteers.
All meals are served on disposable dishes, delivered hot in special containers designed for Meals on Wheels. If the food is to be eaten later in the day, our volunteers refrigerate the meal at the recipient’s home.
Special diets include: diabetic, low cholesterol and minced but individual likes and dislikes cannot be taken into consideration.
What are the meals like?
Each meal consists of soup with crackers; a main portion of either meat or poultry; potatoes, pasta or rice; a vegetable; dessert and juice.

Time of Delivery

Meals are delivered between 11am and 1:30pm, Monday to Friday

No deliveries are made on Saturday, Sunday or statutory holidays.

Frozen meals to accommodate weekends and holidays, if necessary, can be arranged.

Payment

The cost is $4.75 for each meal.

Payment by cash or cheque to volunteer collector or on receipt of requested invoice.

Please note that some veterans may qualify for funding from the Department of Veterans Affairs. Applications for this funding must be made by the recipient or family. Please call DVA Representative at 1-866-522-2122 for more information.
Cancellation

Meals may be cancelled by calling 604-942-7506 before 10:00 am the day before

Cancellations for Monday must be made before 10:00 am on Friday

Clients will be billed for meals not cancelled.
